Episode 02: Watermelon Mint by Nixie
In this episode, we crack open a can of Watermelon Mint by Nixie. Nixie is a house brand at Whole Foods, which made it really easy for fizzy friends Lauren and A to use a grocery delivery service to leave a case of the bubbly good stuff on my patio as a surprise. While this is a sparkling water and technically not a seltzer, I loved tasting this one! Watermelon is a classic summer flavor and in the absence of a fresh melon at a party, this bubbly bevvy would still hit the spot.
A million years ago, at a roofdeck party in South Philly, my friends and I dumped an entire bottle of Everclear into a watermelon. It only ended badly because…well… we didn’t exactly finish the watermelon and in our exuberant state…forgot about the watermelon. That delicious alcoholic treat turned into a dangerous bee situation making the post-party cleanup pretty unpleasant.
Flavor
Watermelon Mint, by Nixie
The Can
Gorgeous! The can is bright pink with beautiful illustrations of watermelon and mint leaves. For sighted seltzer-heads, t’s obvious what is inside the can.
Notes
Strong crack, lightly bubbly, not too aggressive. Watermelon forward, slight earthy mint-ness on the back end. This watermelon tastes very natural, like you’re biting into a real melon. Shockingly, it is NOT AT ALL reminiscent of toothpaste. Do they make watermelon flavored toothpaste? That would be weird, I think.
Overall reaction
Pretty good
