Beach Plum by La Croix

The Can

La Croix proclaims how “innocent” their beverages are with such aplomb that it triggers my skepticism. Innocent of what, exactly? What crimes could this can have done? It doesn’t have arms or legs! Or sentience for that matter!

Otherwise, this can is a beauty! It strays from La Croix’s typical brushy, 90s Mom swirly design in favor of a gorgeous beach scene with a pretty blue sky, clear blue ocean and images of beach plums. I did not know a beach plum was a real fruit and after a very superficial internet search, I learned they are more like a micro-plum or a big blueberry. The pinks and yellows on the can give it a very summery vibe and you’d half-expect it to give a flavor of clouds or sand or ocean water, since they are pictured there.

I styled the bar in my dining room with a copy of a McMaster-Carr catalog because 1. I am extremely cool and B. It’s a status symbol for folks in the know.

Notes

This flavor tastes like sitting on a beach. No, it doesn’t taste like sand, or sun, or peeing in the ocean. The subtle notes of beach plum unveil themselves, offering a nuanced aroma of what can only be described as “purple.” Let the plummy blueberry flavor transport you to your favorite beach, tropical or not. It calls to mind a warm summer day spent on the beach with your favorite fizzy friends, adequate sun protection, and a good book. Hopefully it’s not too crowded. The essence of beach plum lingers on the tongue, leaving behind evocative memories of seaside picnics and coastal serenity. La Croix has a fairly spicy bubble and its effervescence dances on the palate, creating a refreshing sensation that mirrors the gentle spray of an ocean breeze. This bubbly beverage calls to mind coastal landscapes for a refined and enjoyable drinking experience.
